Linguine FAQs
How much linguine should I serve per person?
In Italy, smaller portions of pasta are often served as a primo (first course), with more food coming after. In the UK, pasta is often the main event – so you can be more generous. For dried linguine, serve 100g uncooked pasta per person. For fresh, serve up to 120g.
OUR GUIDE TO PASTA PORTION SIZESWhat’s the difference between linguine and spaghetti?
Like spaghetti, linguine are part of the pasta lunga (long pasta) family. Linguine are similar in appearance to spaghetti, but thicker and with more of an oval shape. Both spaghetti and linguine are extruded pasta shapes made with durum wheat flour and water.

Linguine pairs well with a variety of medium-thick sauces, from oil-based pesto or vegetable-led recipes to sumptuous seafood sauces like clam vongole. Although it’s thicker than spaghetti, we still wouldn’t recommend that you serve linguine with chunky meat sauces like ragú. A wider shape like tagliatelle is more appropriate.
