Veneto has some exceptionally good wines that can be found at quite reasonable prices. It is famous for its production of Prosecco and Pinot Grigio but also grows noticeable amounts of Valpolicella, Amarone, Soave, and Bardolino. Red Wines
Valpolicella is a region in western Veneto that produces a variety of wines. The most notable of these are Valpolicella Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) and Amarone della Valpolicella Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG). The main grapes grown in Valpolicella are Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Molinara. There are four key styles produced in the Valpolicella region. These are Valpolicella, Valpolicella Ripasso, Amarone della Valpolicella, and Recioto della Valpolicella. While all are generally made with a combination Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara, they are differentiated by the winemaking technique and growing style.
White Wines
Pinot Grigio and Soave are two common white wines coming from the Veneto region. Soave wines are made with a combination of the Garganega varietal along with Chardonnay and Trebbiano di Soave (also known as Verdicchio). Soave wines are dry and crisp with citrus notes and noticeable salinity and minerality.
Prosecco
Prosecco comes from the regions around Conegliano and Valdobbiadene in the Veneto region. This light sparkling wine has become extremely popular worldwide so is widely available. Valdobbiadene is the central area for Prosecco.
